Azerbaijan reopens Iran border to cargo traffic after drone incident: Report

Azerbaijan ⁠says it had reopened its border crossings ⁠with Iran for all cargo traffic, according to ⁠Russia’s state-run TASS news agency.

The border crossings, one of the ‌shortest land routes connecting Iran to its ally Russia, were closed last week after what Baku described as an ⁠Iranian drone attack ⁠in the Nakhchivan exclave.

Late on Sunday, Iranian President Masoud ⁠Pezeshkian held a phone conversation with his Azerbaijani counterpart ⁠Ilham Aliyev, telling ⁠him Iran had not been involved in the Nakhchivan incident ‌and that Tehran was investigating, Aliyev’s office said.

Trump, Putin discuss ‘quick political and diplomatic end’ to Iran war

Russia’s President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump have discussed the Iran war and Ukraine conflict during a “frank and constructive” telephone call, according to the Kremlin.

“The accent was placed on the situation surrounding the conflict with Iran and the bilateral negotiations under way with the representatives of the United States on settling the Ukrainian question,” Putin’s diplomatic adviser Yuri Ushakov was quoted as saying by Russian news agencies.

Ushakov said Putin “expressed several thoughts aimed at a quick political and diplomatic end to the Iranian conflict, including contacts that have taken place with leaders of Gulf states, the president of Iran and leaders of other countries”.

He also said the two presidents discussed the situation ‌in ‌Venezuela in the context of global oil markets.
