How much this air war is costing the US government is probably coming as a shock to members of Congress and the general public. It’s an estimated $1bn a day.
The Pentagon apparently has put together a $50bn supplemental budget request to replace the Tomahawk missiles, the THAAD missiles and Patriot missiles that have been used in the first seven days of this war, as well as replacing other equipment that may have been damaged or worn out because the military burn rate has been rather high.
Congress has already been concerned about the budget deficit and the interest on the federal debt. Another $50bn request might give some legislators pause.
