The Philippines says its ships will be granted safe passage in the Strait of Hormuz. It’s a significant development for the government in Manila and another sign of shipping movement through the strait.
The Philippines held talks with Iran after being in contact for some time. Manila wanted to be designated a “non-hostile” state so it could receive shipments of oil.
Foreign Minister, Theresa Lazaro, said the talks were productive and positive and their Iranian counterpart pledged that Philippine-flagged vessels, energy and seafarers would be allowed “safe, unhindered and expeditious passage”.
