US Defence Secretary Hegseth has ordered the withdrawal of 5,000 American troops from Germany, the Pentagon said on Friday, in an apparent US rebuke to the close NATO ally amid a widening rift between President Donald Trump and Europe over the Iran war.

Trump threatened the drawdown days ago after a bitter exchange with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who accused the Iranian government of “humiliating” the United States in stalled peace talks to end the two-month-old war.

Chief Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell said the withdrawal was expected to be completed over the next six to twelve months, reported Reuters.

据德国方面4月30日消息，德国外长瓦德富尔当天表示，针对美国总统特朗普日前威胁削减驻德国美军，德方“已对此做好准备”。
　　正在摩洛哥出访的瓦德富尔表示，德美双方在北约机构内就此事进行了密切讨论，正等待美方作出决定，且该决定“必须按照盟国和伙伴间应有的方式，与我们及其他各方进行商讨”。
　　瓦德富尔说，特朗普的言论并不会对美国在德的大型驻军基地构成威胁，拉姆施泰因空军基地等对美国和德国都具有不可替代的作用。
　　德国总理默茨27日批评美国在伊朗的军事行动“缺乏计划”，称美国“正受到伊朗领导层羞辱”。作为回应，特朗普在社交媒体上称默茨“根本不知道自己在说什么”，后称美国政府正在研究削减驻德美军的可能性，相关决定将在近期内作出。
