Court documents reveal shocking texts as Karen Read sues Massachusetts State Police, Canton PD

Karen Read, who was tried twice and acquitted for the murder of her ex-boyfriend, Boston Police Officer John O’Keefe, filed suit against the Massachusetts State Police and the Canton Police Department Thursday.

The 87-page complaint was filed in Bristol Superior Court in Fall River. According to Read’s attorneys, the case is about “a culture of bias and corruption that they built, tolerated, and hid from the public for years” by both law enforcement agencies.

Michael Proctor was suspended in 2024 and officially fired by the State Police in March 2025.
In December 2025, the Massachusetts Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Commission formally revoked his law enforcement certification, permanently banning him from working as a police officer in the state.

Sean Goode was placed on administrative leave in November 2025 due to allegations stemming from an investigation into former State Police Trooper Michael Proctor. On June 2, 2026, Goode officially resigned from the Canton Police Department in the middle of that internal affairs investigation.
